My DIY: Valet Chair Makeover

Valet chairs are just about the cutest things ever. This was an old one that Steve had kicking around, which I put in our front hall. It even folds up flat, as if it weren’t compact enough. But with its yellowed plastic top, and dated plaid cover it was was just this side of meh. It needed a little sprucing up.

The top and wooden hanger were painted white and black respectively, and I recovered the seat with some incredible bargain material I got at Fabricville, plus a few cheerful red buttons. The old seat cushion and material were in great shape, and were so very well put together that it would take me an age to get all the little staples out, so I left them as is and just covered over with the new material. For a basic step by step on this, see the vanity chair makeover I did a little while ago. Here’s the results:

I’m pretty happy with it. I’m less happy with the photography but folks, we haven’t seen sun here in I don’t know how long now. All I know is my fingers are beginning to web and the humidity is driving me to crazy thoughts of living in the desert. But at least I’ll have a snappy little valet chair to pack when I move.
