Vintage luggage becomes sewing case 10
Have I mentioned that I got a new sewing machine? Yes, possibly I have. At the same time, Steve arrived home from a trip with a vintage lady’s travel case that was in great condition. Clearly my newly invigorated interest in sewing was going to require purchasing a bit of extra gear, so I decided to convert it into a sewing case.
Here’s the old case:
It really was in great condition – all it needed was a lick of paint and a touch up on some of the hardware. I also bought a small rack for my threads. Otherwise, its small elasticized bands and pockets made it perfect for storing things.
Previous to this, I thought I possibly had too many spools of thread, but now I can clearly see room for improvement in this collection. This case is already paying for itself! (It’s new math, folks. )

I can’t stand it…it’s too adorable for words!
well thanks! I won’t say then what steve paid for the piece (but it made me go tsk tsk.)
Where did you find the stacked spool rack? I still have my old case from the 60s and love this idea!
HI Karen – I got it at my local sewing shop. It was nothing special – about $6!
So cute! Can you tell me what you used to paint this? I have an old case almost identical that belonged to my grandmother, she was a long time quilter and I can’t think of a better way for me to put her old case to use! Especially since my sewing supplies are currently a wreck of a mess!!
I used Krylon Fusion spray paint – stuff will stick to just about anything!
I literally just bought this exact case for this exact purpose. 2.99 at my local Sally store.
Well you got a better deal than Steve, I can tell you that!
I LOVE it! I was wondering what i could do with my case like this. I found mine in the alley on big trash pick up day. It is in almost “new” condition. Thanks for sharing your idea! I have a mission tomorrow. LOL!
Excellent!
